Published in the New Plantsman and Curtis's Botanical Magazine (Kew) commissioned a set of paintings and drawings, these are now in the permanent at Kew. A native of Chile, these are very rare now because of logging and burning.

The oldest known tree is over 3600 years old. The name Fitzroya was established in honour of Captain Robert Fritz-Roy who captained the Beagle on which Charles Darwin travelled around the world.
