Acmopyle Pancheri

Published in the New Plantsman, is one of the New Caledonian (near New Zealand) endemic conifers. The island is an ancient fragment of the former Southern Continent of Gondwanaland, on which a particularly ancient group of conifers have survived.

Acmopyle pancheri has a bizarre purple fleshy female fruit, the male cones are delicate and candle - like yellow, only a small number of these conifers survive on remote mountain summits.
